Battery engineers rarely have one clean heat path. Cells generate heat at different rates, module frames move under load, and every interface adds thermal resistance. The practical question is not simply which material conducts heat best, but which interface can be assembled repeatably at the required thickness.

Where a silicone gap pad helps

A silicone gap pad is useful when the gap is uneven and the assembly needs a compliant material that absorbs tolerance instead of transferring stress to the cells. For a prismatic cell cooling plate, the pad also needs enough dielectric strength and compression recovery to survive years of thermal cycling.

When an adhesive makes more sense

A clamped connection is not always possible. When the joint needs a thin bond line and mechanical fastening would add weight, thermal conductive tape can replace a paste or pad. The design team still has to confirm adhesion to the housing, compression during cure, and serviceability during repair.

For a side-by-side comparison of carriers, adhesives, and test methods, read the thermal tape selection guide before requesting samples. Teams reviewing the complete material set can start from EV battery thermal materials and then narrow the choice by gap, power density, and production process.

Validate the real assembly

Datasheet conductivity is only a starting point. Build a representative stack, measure interface resistance at the production clamp pressure, and run thermal cycling with the same surface finish and cleanliness used on the line. This catches the failures that a material selector alone cannot see.
